Like Mother, Like Daughter

Brent, Olivia and I were sitting on the patio while Katelynn was playing in the little fountain. This was the conversation that followed.

Me (looking at Katelynn): Katelynn, you have a dirty face. Why don't you wash it?
Katelynn (ignoring me): Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know Grandma.
Me (looking at Katelynn's mammy): She got that from you!!!!
Katelynn's Mammy: What did I do?

Funny how life repeats itself.

At Last...The April Chicken

For those of you who have been waiting (I think there's only two of you, and you know who you are!), here is the April Chicken of the Month. A very handsome Araucana Golden Duckwing.

Black Cast

One week later the cast is still there.
The doctor said it was healing nicely but didn't want to remove it so Michael asked for it to be wrapped in fiberglass. The doctor went out of the room and we heard him tell the nurse that the young man wanted pink. She appeared at the door looking bemused, but thankfully she realised the joke and got him the black that he really wanted. When the doctor walked past our room again he said, "Hhhmm, black, eh? Do you want sprinkles?" Michael was game but thankfully it didn't happen.
We go back in three weeks to have the cast removed.

April Fools

You might think that this goofy photo of Michael as a computer wallpaper is okay, except, it isn't his computer. It's his sister's. He logged on this morning before she woke up and as it has a built in camera, he snapped this pic of himself as an April Fool's joke. Thankfully, she saw the funny side of it.

Casted Finally

After a very stressful week of trying to get to see the right doctor for Michael's broken hand, today we finally got to see the orthopedic surgeon and the good news was that Michael does not need surgery, as we were first informed.
It was kind of funny when he was telling us that he was planning on casting it. He said to Michael "Do you want me to numb it, or can you just take it?". Michael said "I'll just take it" and so the doctor then hurried out of the room to get the stuff he needed. I asked Michael if he realised that the doctor was going to realign the bone by pressing and manipulating it. He went a funny color and decided that he wanted to be numb. I can't say I blame him. Anyway, it wasn't as bad as Michael was anticipating and the picture shows the finished result.
He has to go back in a week to check it's healing okay and at that point he may be able to have this ugly plaster cast removed and replaced with a fiberglass one of the color of his choice. His dad thinks he should have pink, but I have a feeling that Michael's choice will be black. All in all, he'll have to remain casted for about 4 weeks.

Savannah's Grave

Today was the 5th anniversary of Savannah's death and so we all went to the graveyard to visit her. It's the first time Katelynn has seen her big sister's grave and she kept pointing to it and saying "sister's grave". She was very interested in it and all the other flowers and decorations on the other graves too. As it is a baby area, there were lots of cuddly toys and Easter eggs on the graves. It was too cute when Katelynn pointed at those and said "chicken eggs!".

Miss Skinny and Mr Stocky

Olivia took Katelynn and Christopher to get their vitals done this week. Take a look at these stats.
Katelynn: 2 years 8 months, 24lb 3 oz, 34.2" tall
Christopher: 10 months, 24lb 0 oz, 28.4" tall

Needless to say, Olivia was told, once again, to take Kate to the doctors as she isn't gaining enough weight. She's been before and the doctor says she's healthy enough. It's like deja vue for me as that's exactly how Olivia was too. They'd take one look at her stocky brother then look at her, skinny as a rake and start plotting her weight on that dratted chart.
In this case, Kate doesn't stand a chance. Her dad is skinny too. What do they expect? I'm sure when she's in her 20s and skinny, no one will complain then!

Trip to the Riparian Reserve

This evening we walked around the Riparian Reserve, a wetland wildlife sanctuary right here in Gilbert, with Olivia, Greg and the kids. It was a lovely evening and Katelynn enjoyed herself tremendously. Here's some of the pics I took and a little video clip which gets a bit blurry toward the end, but you get the drift of it.

Fisticuffs Doesn't Pay!

About two and a half years ago, Michael broke his right 4th metacarpal when it was crushed in an injury at work. It healed by itself but on Saturday, he and Jordan decided to "play" at fisticuffs and after a few days of the pain and swelling getting worse, this X-ray clearly shows the result.
Our family doctor thinks he'll probably have to have surgery to put a pin in and we go to see the orthopedic surgeon on Monday. So far lots of money spent and even more wasted time trying to make sense of this crazy healthcare system. It's at times like these that I fondly remember the NHS...simply go to the hospital and they'll fix it for you the same day.
