The Facts of Life

I was pretty tired after work yesterday so I decided to have a nice hot bath. No sooner had I shooed the grand kids out and climbed in than I heard an almighty ruckus outside the door. Katelynn wanted a bath too, so like all nice Grandmas do, I told Brent to let her in. She ran over to the bath tub and got her clothes off all by herself quick sharp. I like hot water, but that didn't deter her; she sat on the edge with her feet dangling in until she gradually got used to it and then climbed in with Grandma. "Ooh, that's a big tummy", she said. "It's not a tummy darling, it's a breast" I replied. "A breast" she said. "Yes, a breast. Mammy has them too. When you're a big girl, you'll have them as well." We then had a conversation about who has breasts, a little difficult as me, Katelynn and her mammy are the only girls in the house, so the answer was that everyone else did not have breasts. Not Grandad, not Daddy, not Uncle Michael nor Uncle Jordan. "Does Donny have breasts?" she asked. "No, Donny doesn't have breasts. He's a boy". Whatever next?
Today we were in Kohls. "What's that Grandma?" "A bra" I replied. "A bra?" "Yes, a bra". "Oooh, look at that pretty bra" she exclaimed as we weaved in and out of the bra section. "I like that bra. This is a pretty bra too Grandma" she said as she was picking bras off the rails. I noticed that she had a tendency for black ones. Does that mean anything? I picked a bra for myself, a white one, but no, "No Grandma. I like this bra. It's a pretty bra." Once again, she picked me a black and blue swirly patterned one. I declined and returned it to the rail.
She's just turned three. Am I supposed to be talking about breasts and bras?

A little too perfect?

So me and Brent were in the kitchen today getting dinner ready. He's peeling potatoes, I'm chopping onions and we're having a conversation about my schoolwork. When I told him that I got 100% for the draft of my sociology research paper, he told me that it was a little disturbing. "What do you mean?" I asked him. "Well you keep on getting 100% every time. I mean, I know you're good, but..." Following a lengthy stare, I asked, "So you mean I'm good, but I'm not that good?"
Quit while you're ahead buddy! I've got a knife in my hands!

It's a Dog's Life

Here's Jordan and his girlfriend Colleen having a fun time shampooing the dogs. I'm not sure that the dogs felt it was fun though, especially Sophie. She really doesn't like being bathed. Anyway, the first two photos are of Max and the second two are Sophie.
By the way, after all of this they smelt like fresh green apples!

Memorial

It was a year ago today that my dear sweet mother in law died. I miss her more than words can say. She was a huge inspiration in my life and I am just so pleased and proud to have had the privilege of knowing one of God's own angels.

A Sad Person

On Thursday night, Brent and I went for a hot date to Barnes and Noble (like W.H. Smith for you UK-ers) to look at books. It's a huge 2 storey building, so we made a quick tour of the first floor, then up the escalator to tour the second floor. Brent homed in on his areas but I seemed a little restless and couldn't seem to decide what I wanted to look at. Then it hit me. I went back down to the first floor, homed in on the Math section and took out 3 books on algebra. I found a comfy seat and compared them all. Finally I decided on one of them and bought that. A hot date turned into me being simply a sad person. Algebra! "Who'd a thunk it?"

August Chicken of the Month

A Cochin Buff. Very nice head and shoulders shot. Pity you can't see his feet, they're all fluffy and feathery.

Funny Happenings in the Bathroom

Scenario #1:
Katelynn got on our bathroom scales and her Mammy said "How much do you weigh, Katelynn?" "Two-one-five", she replied. Ooh I hope not, she's only three!

Scenario #2:
Katelynn has been getting into trouble recently for spitting and has been having some "lessons in being a good girl" from her Daddy. When Grandad was brushing his teeth at the bathroom sink, Katelynn piped up "Don't spit Grandad!" Can you brush your teeth without spitting?

Life

You might be wondering why I haven't posted anything recently. Well, that's because "All work and no play make Janet a very boring girl" If I'm not at work, working, I'm at home, working...school work that is. It's all time consuming, but so far the grades are good!

Crazy Horses Katelynn

I just had to post this video of Katelynn dancing to Crazy Horses. It's pretty dark but you can just make out how she gets down to it. At the end she got REALLY excited. If you listen closely right at the end, you'll hear her say "Yeah!" She loved it!

Raising Another Fan

Grandma: Do you want to watch Beauty and The Beast?
Katelynn: No
Grandma: Do you want to watch Winnie The Pooh?
Katelynn: No
Grandma: Do you want to watch Donny?
Katelynn: YES!!!!

Grandma inserts Donny Live at Edinburgh Castle DVD. Donny appears on screen.

Katelynn: It's Donny! MY Donny!!!

Aaaah, another generation Donny fan.
PS. The first word she heard as a newborn was Donny. It obviously had an effect.
